Mother Nature never ceases to amaze humanity, simply because of itsunpredictability. Some of the most fascinating things in life are natural phenomenathat occur in the world. They have the power to hypnotize us and leave us forced by their beauty, uniqueness and freakishness plain. Here is a list of ten of the verystrangest, most fascinating and fantastic for all the world of natural phenomena.
1. Old Faithful
Yellowstone is the world’s best known geyser eruptions because of its compatiblealmost every hour. Up to 8,400 liters of boiling water shoot into the sky reaching heights of over 100 feet. It was first discovered in 1870 and since then more than30 000 eruptions have been recorded. Like a whale show at Sea World this geyserattracts thousands of tourists a year.
2. Kelimutu
Kelimutu in Indonesia attracting visitors because of its three beautiful crater lakes, all of different colors. It is situated on top of a volcano 1639 meters above sea levelon the island of Flores and the three lakes change colors often. It depends on thetime of the year and their mineral content changes. Although they are subject toregular changes of the main color of Tiwu Ata Polo (Bewitched Lake people) andMuri Koo Fai Tiwu Nuwa (Lake of the young men and girls) are deep reddish brown or green. Located west of these is Tiwu Mbupu Ata (Lake elderly), which is more of a blue color.
3. Surtsey
In August 1883, the Javanese island of Krakatoa disappeared forever in a singleviolent explosion. Exactly 80 years later a new volcanic island emerged in its placecompletely out of the blue. It was discovered that this was caused by a continuous series of volcanic eruptions less fierce in the sea south of Iceland. In two days only enough of lava and cinders were thrown to the surface causing an island to form,which measured one third of a mile from end to end. Wind and erosion has reduced its size since its first appearance, but this did not prevent some animalsimplementation of the house on the island. Residents include seals, puffins, swans,geese and ravens different.
4. Dead Sea
As the guy in the table shows that it is perfectly easy to float on the Dead Sea andread a newspaper. The reason for this is that it is 25% salt (normal seawater is around 4-6). Obviously no marine life can live in the Dead Sea or the other and with the increase in the density of water is floating the natural presence. The Dead Sea, interestingly, is not only the last place on the planet but it is also the hottest, in addition to the interior of a volcano, of course!
5. Petrified Forest
Lying next to Arizona, I-40 highway, deep in the desert between Holbrook andNavajo is the petrified forest. The “forest” includes fossilized fallen trees, mainlyAraucarioxylon arizonicum, an ancient species of conifers, which have beenmineralized quartz and chalcedony. This process occurrs after the fallen dead treesbecome impregnated with the mineral content of the sediments in which they lie.This essentially means that the wood of the tree eventually turn into stone.
6. Giant’s Causeway
The site of Ireland’s first and only World Heritage area that covered huge basalt columns and stones. The 38 000 stone columns were created after the eruption of a volcano about 60 million years. The lava cooled quickly leaving behind the columns sightly. The locals, however, that tourists prefer a different story. They sayMacCumhaill Fionn (pronounced Finn McCool) created the zone by throwing hugechunks of the cliff to make stepping stones so that he could get to her lover on the island of Staffa in the Hebrides, or walk to Scotland to fight the giant ScottishBenandonner. Hence the name of the place.
7. Pitch Lake
Pitch Lake is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Trinidad, seeing over 20,000 visitors a year. Unlike any other lake in the world it is filled with gloopy, thick mixture of bitumen, clay and saltwater. It covers over 100 hectares and has been used for asphalt, since Sir Walter Rayleigh first caulking took some wood from his ship back in 1595. Not surprisingly there is no live his life in the mud.
8. General Sherman
Not including coral reefs and the spread of the fungi of this famous giant sequoia of California is officially the most alive thing in the world. It is somewhere between 23and 27 centuries. Its trunk is composed alone almost 52,000 cubic meters of wood. It stands tall at 275 meters high, is more than 36 feet in diameter at its base and has a crown that spreads a little over 106 feet! He was named in honor of theAmerican Civil War General William Sherman, by naturalist James Wolverton who served under the command of Sherman.
9. Dachstein Caves
An impressive 150 miles of tunnels and caves ice caves claim form Dachstein ice caves of Austria that are located near the famous Lake Hallstatt. The columns of ice magnificent arches and peaks were formed by the swirling air that parts of the ice melted. Deeper Underground is a giant glacier, but some of the most amazingsites can be seen on the trip down, where parts of the ice formed what looks like ahuge cathedral of ice.
10. Aurora Borealis
Otherwise known as the aurora borealis this mysterious phenomenon and natural beauty is said to be one of the greatest treasures in life if you’re lucky enough to see them for yourself. The name of Aurora Borealis comes from the Roman goddess of dawn, dawn, and the Greek name for north wind, Boreas. There is also the Southern Lights aka Aurora Australis – the Latin word for the South. The lights are one result of photons of the Earth colliding with the solar wind. You will not belucky enough to see if you visit certain parts of the northern or southern hemisphere.
